Review | Brutal Curse | Casey L. Bond

brutal curse rdb tour banner (2)Brutal Curse is a Young Adult Fairy Tale retelling of Alice in Wonderland.  And doesn’t it have the most stunning cover???

About The Book

Brutal Curse EbookPrince Carden of Tierney lost his home, family, and claim to the throne in one fell swoop when he rebelled against his father for a cause he knew was right. Instead of wallowing in despair, he embarks on a new journey, starting a new life on the Southern Isle. When he finds himself caught in a web woven by the famously ruthless fae queen, Coeur, he insults her and she vows to teach him the most difficult and heart-breaking lesson he will ever learn: that humans are incapable of love, and that hearts are beastly things.

Arabella wasn’t really living, she was existing and surviving as best she could. A chance encounter with Carden changes everything for her, but the deadly game he’s dragged her into might cost her life.

Still, she agrees to play. The rules the fae queen gives them are vague, and it’s obvious there are things Queen Coeur isn’t telling them. She’s sure of it. But what she does know is that together, she and Carden must pass a series of tests and trials. If they fail, game over. But if they succeed, she just might be able to restore her family and carve out the life she’s always envisioned.

My Thoughts

I received a copy of  Brutal Curse for my honest opinion.

At this point, I’m not even sure how many books I’ve devoured by Casey L. Bond, but I have yet to find one that isn’t spectacular.

She is a brilliant writer and her mind itself must be a magical, wonderous place to be.  Ms. Bond brings those thoughts from her mind and brings them to life for the reader on every page, every chapter, every book.  And there are not many authors in this genre that compare to Casey L Bond.

Brutal Curse, a loose retelling of Alice and Wonderland, is imaginative, creative and beyond unique. With both a strong plot and even stronger characters, you’ll find yourself sucked into the rabbit hole right from the beginning pages.

If you are looking for something different, a twist on the ordinary, then I highly recommend Brutal Curse by Casey L Bond.

I can easily give Brutal Curse 5 stars and I’ll throw in a glass of whiskey too.

Review – Even Money – Alessandra Torre

As any reviewer knows, when given a ARC copy of any book to review, there is always a chance that the book will be horrible.  Always that slight fear that you aren’t going to be able to say anything good about it.   I need to tell you that Even Money is so far from horrible its on the complete other end of the spectrum.

EvenMoney_EbookNow I may be bias, since I love everything that Alessandra Torre writes, but I think Even Money may just be one of her best books yet.

I was completely greedy with every word, devouring the pages as quickly as I could.

The storyline of Even Money is a nice change of pace from the typical romance novels, which I think is why I loved it so much.  Miss Torre wrote masterful words of sexual wickedness, naughty transgressions and edgy suspense all while making us fall in love with Dario and Bell.

Even Money was hotter than Hades in Hell.

He growled the words and they poured out like kerosene on my need.

Even Money is told from a dual POV, with a strong female lead and ends with one hell of a cliffhanger.  But luckily it looks like book 2 of this duet will be out on June 18 for which I am glad, because the suspense is killing me.

I give Even Money 5 Stars, plus a glass of whiskey, which was need to cure my book hangover.

Review: Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas

As per my MO, I usually end up plucking a book out of a long list of offerings based on the cover. This was no different with Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas.  Having read other novels by Miss Douglas I didn’t even read the blurb, just dug right in.

He took me in when I had nowhere else to go.

He doesn’t use me, hurt me, or forget about me. He doesn’t treat me like I’m nothing, take me for granted, or make me feel unsafe.birthdaygirl

He remembers me, laughs with me, and looks at me. He listens to me, protects me, and sees me. I can feel his eyes on me over the breakfast table, and my heart pumps so hard when I hear him pull in the driveway after work.

I have to stop this. It can’t happen.

My sister once told me there are no good men, and if you find one, he’s probably unavailable.

Only Pike Lawson isn’t the unavailable one.

I am.

I took her in, because I thought I was helping.

She’d cook a few meals and clean up a little. It was an easy arrangement.

As the days go by, though, it’s becoming anything but easy. I have to stop my mind from drifting to her and stop holding my breath every time I bump into her in the house. I can’t touch her, and I shouldn’t want to.

The more I find my path crossing hers, though, the more she’s becoming a part of me.

But we’re not free to give into this. She’s nineteen, and I’m thirty-eight.

And her boyfriend’s father.

Unfortunately, they both just moved into my house.

What I loved about Birthday Girl was that it was written as a love story and not the typical girl porn, older man/ young girl, taboo erotica novel.  Penelope Douglas wrote a strong, enticing and sexually tense romance novel about two people in an untypical, society challenged situation. She attests that two people can overcome barriers and prove that love is not a number but a state of mind.

If you are a fan of Penelope Douglas or you decide that Birthday Girl will be your first dip into the Douglas pool, you won’t be disappointed.  With the fun references to the 80’s, the touch of the forbidden, lots of tension and the ever so important sizzling sex scenes, Miss Douglas has cleverly weaved a novel that will ferry your mind on a sea of emotions.

5 Stars from Whiskey Angel for Birthday Girl!

Review – Cocky Nerd by Kayley Loring

16075917While looking for a fun weekend read, I stumbled upon Cocky Nerd by Kayley Loring.  At that point I had not read anything by this author, but right away I loved the cover and the blurb and decided that this would be my weekend read.  Realistically though??? It ended up being a Friday night/ early Saturday morning read.   I read well into the night, many times saying to myself, that famous line all of us die hard readers say “Just one more chapter” Ha!!!

Cocky Nerd is told in a dual POV which always scores points with me.  I love when authors write from the male POV. And let me tell you, Miss Loring wrote Johnny Nerdballs Brant to perfection.  His character is hot, super smart & charming, yet there were so many times that I wanted to punch him in the face at a rate of some mathematical equation….read the book, you’ll see what I mean.

I really enjoyed that Kayley didn’t write the typical alpha male lead.  It was a very welcome change from the norm and worked so well for the over flow and story line of the book.

A line from the female lead, Olivia, perfect sums up this book:

In just a week, John Brandt has gone from Brother’s Annoying Friend That I Want To Punch, to Person I Can’t Imagine Living Without Despite Sometimes Wanting To Punch Him.

I easily rate Cocky Nerd a 5 Star read! Its fun, unique, witty and steamy!  You will not be disappointed.   Also, it is currently available on KU!

Check out my Friday Fivesome with Kayley Loring!
