About Unlocked601c8-ul2bpaperback2bfinal

Princess Raya of Paruth lived alone on a deserted island in a towering lighthouse, forgotten by time. With only a loyal albatross as a friend, she had little hope or joy in her life until he washed up on her shore in the middle of a raging winter storm.

Prince Trevor of Galder left his father and kingdom behind to travel north in search of a wife. It was time to settle down and forget Ella Carina, the woman who chose to love a peasant and follow her heart instead of choosing Trevor and fulfilling her duty to her people. He didn’t heed the warnings about the North Sea in winter, and his ship, crew, and captain paid the price.

Raya and Trevor must work together to find a way off the island, or risk being trapped there for the rest of their lives. But sometimes the simplest lessons are the hardest, and each will have to learn that the only thing that can truly set you free is love

Friday Fivesome with Amanda V Shane

Friday5I had the pleasure this week to rope Amanda V Shane into being a part of my Friday Fivesome.  She is a hidden gem in the world of Urban Fantasy/ Paranormal writers. Her first book, The Snow Maiden, is magically enchanting and oh so steamy, from cover to cover.  36679087

As well, Amanda has started a new series, The Tide of Atlantis.  The firs book in the series, Moontide, has already been released, while readers eagerly await the release of book 2, Crystal Tide.

Oh, and she has some of the most stunning books covers that I have seen.

So here it is, 5 random questions for Amanda Shane:

1.  What song almost always ends up on your playlist?

“Funhouse” by Pink

2.   You don’t know where you are going, but you can only pack 3 items to take on vacation with you. What would they be?

Lighter, pocket knife, mascara (I’m a survivalist )

3. What is your favorite quote or saying?

“Romantic art is the fuel and the spark plug of a man’s soul; its task is to set a soul on fire and never let it go out.” ~Ayn Rand

4.  If you could co-write with any author, who would it be?

Karen Marie Moning – I’m a huge fan of her books.

5. What’s your favorite colour? Now make up a cocktail name using that colour.

Green – The Green Sea Demon

Bonus:  What’s your pet peeve?

Eating sounds and milk mustaches. Those ads they did of the celebrities with the milk mustaches a few years ago were an absolute nightmare for me, lol.

About Amanda

Amanda V. Shane is a Colorado native and fully admits to having been a library dork headshots-002growing up. To this day, she loves the smell of book paper on an almost fetish level (okay, maybe not, but that gives you a peek into the dark and twisted mind of this author). One of her first book romances came at the age of nine when, in a far back aisle, she found the story of King Arthur and was entranced by the blood purple canvas cover with gold leafing – she likes shiny things.
Since then, she’s been hooked on stories with magic, mythical beings, daring heroes and, of course, desperate romance.
Today, all of the thumbnails on her e-reader sport book covers with chiseled jaws and “shiny” abs but the stories are no less magical, no matter what genre. She writes paranormal and fantasy romance from her home where she lives with her family and a Bassett hound who she routinely has to fight for the “soft” end of the couch to set up with her laptop. She likes chocolate, wine, coffee and kids, in no particular order ;).

If you’re distracted by shiny things too, visit Amanda on the web  and join her mailing list for news, upcoming events and freebies! (shiny freebies)

Friday Fivesome with Author Kayley Loring

Friday5Welcome to my first and what I hope to be many, Friday Fivesomes, where I ask an author 5 random questions about themselves.

This week, I was lucky enough to have Kayley Loring, author of Cocky Nerd and the Work Less, Play More Series, agreed to play along.

Also check out my 5 Star review of Cocky Nerd here!

Let’s see what Miss Loring had to say:

1.  A new crayon is being named after you.   What colour would it be and what would it be called?

It would be called Dork Red Lipstick, and it would be a bold red for drawing the lips of shy lady dorks like me who try to hide their shy dorkiness behind a veil of wit and sophisticated cosmetics.

2.  You’re getting a reality show.  What would it be called?

It would be called, “Oh My God – WHAT -NOW?!?!?”

It would be me yelling at my printer every day. Half of my dialogue would be bleeped out, but the conflicts would be real, and I’d wear cute outfits.

3.  What song almost always ends up on your playlist?
“Waiting In Vain,” both the Bob Marley and the Annie Lennox versions.  Which is ironic because I’m so impatient.

4.  If you were to name your child/ pet after the last thing you ate, what would its name be?

Overpriced organic gluten-free dairy-free non-gmo matcha energy bar.  Matcha Bar for short.

5.  What is your favourite quote or saying?

“If you’re going through hell, keep going.”  Winston Churchill

About Kayley Loring

workation-blog-titleKayley Loring has, until recently, been a borderline workaholic living in Los Angeles.  In the summer of 2017 she moved her adorable family to a beautiful suburb of Portland, Oregon.  She can now breathe clean air while enjoying the great outdoors, and drive around without swearing at strangers.  It’s pretty great.  When not writing, she can happily channel her obsessive energies into plant hoarding, book hoarding, and Anglophilia (ie. being a Hiddlestoner, a Cumberbitch, whatever you call a Luke Evans fan, and binge-watching Harry Potter movies and BBC mysteries).  The rest of the time, she’s feeding indoor cats, outdoor birds and squirrels, telling herself she should do more yoga, and looking for the perfect pair of boots.

The Work Less, Play More books are a series of standalone romantic comedies that are connected by theme.  They are all about work-obsessed women and men who learn to love and relax more while they are on mandatory vacations.

Review – Cocky Nerd by Kayley Loring

16075917While looking for a fun weekend read, I stumbled upon Cocky Nerd by Kayley Loring.  At that point I had not read anything by this author, but right away I loved the cover and the blurb and decided that this would be my weekend read.  Realistically though??? It ended up being a Friday night/ early Saturday morning read.   I read well into the night, many times saying to myself, that famous line all of us die hard readers say “Just one more chapter” Ha!!!

Cocky Nerd is told in a dual POV which always scores points with me.  I love when authors write from the male POV. And let me tell you, Miss Loring wrote Johnny Nerdballs Brant to perfection.  His character is hot, super smart & charming, yet there were so many times that I wanted to punch him in the face at a rate of some mathematical equation….read the book, you’ll see what I mean.

I really enjoyed that Kayley didn’t write the typical alpha male lead.  It was a very welcome change from the norm and worked so well for the over flow and story line of the book.

A line from the female lead, Olivia, perfect sums up this book:

In just a week, John Brandt has gone from Brother’s Annoying Friend That I Want To Punch, to Person I Can’t Imagine Living Without Despite Sometimes Wanting To Punch Him.

I easily rate Cocky Nerd a 5 Star read! Its fun, unique, witty and steamy!  You will not be disappointed.   Also, it is currently available on KU!
