Played Life. Passed Go. But Owed $200 Instead

As you get older you start to see things in a different perspective. Gone are the carefree, playful ways of our youth. Or the rebellious adventures of the teen years. Even our twenties we seem to be carefree has we find our place in the world.

But somewhere, as we travel the board and crossover Go, and moving into the thing called Life, we didn’t get our $200, but owed it instead.

Add to that kids, mortgages, credit card payments, car payments, marriage and relationships, maybe even a divorce and life is a little, really a lot more, serious.

We become a lot more serious. Responsibilities become a lot more serious.

Anxieties and stress mount and all we’d really love to do is wrap ourselves in a bubble of long forgotten youth when it was just so easy!

Reality??? Nope! But what an wonderful possibility it could be.

So for now we continue adulting, and have some laughs along the way.

Human is the only label we need.

8f05e091b6df57d13b25666a380ee72fWhy do we have to define everything?  Why must the world put so many labels on people, relationships,  wealth, personalities, religion, groups etc.  Why can’t it just be?

People seem to be so quick to pass judgement or designate what they don’t know, or how something seems to be.

Take moms for example.  If we don’t raise our child a certain way, or discipline them a certain way, or pack the right food in their lunch bags, we are labelled a bad mom.

Or sexuality.  Why does any label need to be put on sexuality. We are just people that are attracted to and love other people regardless of what is between our legs.  It shouldn’t be defined.  What turns one person on, may not do the same for another, but it isn’t wrong and shouldn’t have to be defined.  It just is.

At the end of the day we are all just people, trying to do the best we can to get through a 24 hour period.

We all struggle with one thing or another and we all excel at one thing or another.  We need to stop living in a protective sleeve, afraid of what we don’t know or understand.  We need to stop trying to categorize everything and if you really need to place a label on anything label it Human because at the end of the day that is what we are.  We are all just human.

Its question and answer time again……so here is goes!

Do you use paper money? If so is your money organized sequentially according to denomination?

I rarely use it anymore.  There just doesn’t seem to be a need for it.   Yet, when I do have it, its shoved however and wherever in my wallet or purse, but funny enough I always know where it is.   monopoly-money_wide-1991457caf6d29cc74ab436d7d4139d1c630672e-s900-c85

Now if I am giving away money, like a gift or to the bank, I always and I mean always, put it in order, lowest to highest, with them facing the correct way.

And if I am playing Monopoly, the money is always lined up lowest to highest.

You are comfortable doing nothing? For long stretches of time?

Nope not really.  I am comfortable being by myself for long periods of time, but not doing anything.   I feel insecure, especially in public.  I need to be doing something, usually reading or playing on my phone.  I can’t even relax for long in a hot bubble bath.  I don’t even nap and if I do its for like 20 mins and then I am done.

The only time I can ever remember just do nothing was when I was in high school (25 or so years ago) and I tried acid.  No!!!  I sat by one of the canal locks for about 4 hours and watched a ship go through.  Did nothing but just sat and watched.  Not sure if that really counts.  Hahaha!

What is your greatest strength?

I am very calm in stressful, chaotic or emergency situations.   I don’t easily fluster.  Except on Friday’s after working all day and the highway is jammed up because someone had gotten into an accident.  I commute for work and by the end of the week I just want to go home.

Oh and if the dishes are stacked wrong……yes there’s a proper way!!!

What did you appreciate or what made you smile this past week?  Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.

My son received an academic and student of the month award at school.  I was so proud of him.  He struggles in school, especially in reading and writing.  He finds it hard.  He is so active and is a much more hands on learner.  This year he has had an amazing teacher who has really turned things around for him.  He has put so much more effort into his school work, mainly because he values his teacher opinion so much.  And that effort really paid off.  I took the afternoon off to see him accept the award.  It was a great end to the week.

Here Comes The Sun

Little darling, it’s been a long cold lonely winter

Little darling, it feels like years since it’s been here

Here comes the sun

Here comes the sun, and I say

It’s all right

Today the sun has graced us with her presence and it’s glorious!

For the first time, in what was an extremely long winter, spring is in the air. All of my neighbors have awoken from hibernation and our street is alive with activity. Cars being washed, yards being cleaned, winter tires being removed, beers being shared. And the sounds of kids playing outside have replaced the sounds of video games.

What a great day! Enjoy it however you can, wherever you are!

Oh and maybe I can get my skin to a normal shade of white!!! Hahahaha!!!

Unknowingly Schooled By Our Kids…It Just Happens!

We learned a lot of our kids without even realizing it. Random stuff that we would never use in our adult world, but stuff nonetheless.

Likely it’s whatever fad or hobby your child is into at any current time.

If you have a young toddler, maybe you know more about Paw Patrol then you could have ever imagined. Be thankful Barney or Caillou are no longer popular.

Maybe you have a sports fanatic or a Barbie lover.

Are you the father of a little girl who loves Disney and you know all of the princesses and every word to Frozen?

My son, for the past few years, has been on a pro scootering kick. I know more about scooter parts and it’s lingo than I ever thought possible. I may not know what song Cardi B sings, but drop the name Claudius Vertesi and I know exactly who you’re talking about.

My son cried when I suggested a trip to Disney asking if we could instead go to California so he could visit The Vault Pro Scooters.

We have more Allen keys then actual keys and if he’s talking about a fork, it’s likely not the kind you eat with.

Whatever it may be in your home, entrance it, you know know when it might come in handy.
