One of the things I put on my bucket list in my teens was to donate blood. I know it doesn’t sound like much, but for someone who is afraid of needles, it is.
As the years went on I began to cross items off my list, yet the blood thing still remained.
It wasn’t until 2 years ago that changed. The son of a teacher at my sons school was diagnosed with Leukaemia and a blood drive in his name was organized. So I thought it was the perfect time to get over my fear and do it.
And you know what??? It wasn’t bad at all. Like most things that we are afraid of, the anticipation is worse than the event.
Last night I gave for the 4th time. I would have liked to have been at a higher number but I had to take a year off since I had travelled to Huatulco Mexico last spring.
My blood is prolific, so I give because I can. I give to help save a life. And I give because I’m not afraid anymore.
